Course description: Directed toward Spanish majors preparing for their Capstone experience, this course aims to guide the student in the process of completing a capstone proposal and initiating the preliminary steps toward the graduation ePortfolio. The ePortfolio provides evidence that a student is making satisfactory progress toward meeting the Core requirements and Major Learning Outcomes (MLOs) for the Spanish B.A.
Course narrative: The Span 300 course helps us to advance our Capstone project, since it is in this class where we meet to notice our preferences and unite them with those who will be our group partners for the rest of Fall and Spring semesters. We also started with the introduction, parts of our literary review and annotated bibliography that will help for a deeper analysis during the following semester. Through this class we are given a number of tools to synthesize and conduct analytical and relevant research that can be used in future studies. Also, we are given the opportunity to advance the course narratives for the E-portfolio, which is where we write and give proofs of everything, we have done in each class during our time at CSUMB. In my case I made the decision to work with Ana López and Leonel Rúa, since the three of us showed a great interest in the literary area, especially in the empowerment and evolution of women in the twentieth century. So in this section we were also assigned an advisor who would help us with the rest of the research. In our case having chosen the literature of Rosario Ferré, originally from Puerto Rico our corresponding advisor was Dr. Christine Fernández because of having an extensive knowledge in Latin American literature. Some of the challenges of these classes was to find a cross between my preferences and those of my classmates, in addition to correctly choosing the topic of interest for our project, since it is where our learning in the program and the synthesizing and research skills that could serve as a reference for future studies will be shown. The culmination of this class resulted in the proposal of our Capstone Project that focused on The Evolution of the Female Figure in Pandora Roles by Rosario Ferré (1976) where the stories "The Youngest Doll", "When Women Love Men", "Amalia", and "The Poisoned Story" will be analyzed.
